Can you change Microsoft Teams’ “meeting ends in 5 minutes” warning on Mac?

Microsoft Teams shows a banner about five minutes before a meeting's scheduled end. It lasts roughly ten seconds, and according to Microsoft's Q&A there's no setting to change its timing. For a countdown you can always see on a Mac, a meeting timer like Interval shows time left at your screen edge for Teams calls.

Short answer

Microsoft's Q&A answer says the warning's timing cannot be customised. Treat that as a dated support answer rather than a guarantee about every Teams version or account. The source was checked 17 October 2026. If your goal is a timer you can watch throughout the discussion, consider whether the countdown should be visible to participants or just to you.

What the Teams banner does

In Microsoft's Q&A discussion about customising the end-of-meeting notification, the answer says the banner appears five minutes before the scheduled end, remains for about ten seconds and is informational only. It says customisation is not supported. It is not a persistent countdown that stays visible for the rest of the meeting.

These are Q&A statements, not a product policy or a promise about future releases.

Not seeing it on Mac?

A Mac user's question on Microsoft's Q&A asks about enabling the banner. It establishes the problem, but this guide does not treat a forum question as a verified fix. Review the notification options available in your own Teams version and use Microsoft's current help if you need to troubleshoot its banner.

The Teams Timer: when to use it

Microsoft documents adding a meeting timer in Microsoft Teams personal. This is the presenter-led option when participants need to see the timer. Use Microsoft's instructions for its participant and presenter capabilities, and check that the documented Teams context matches the meeting you are arranging.

A personal countdown for every Teams call

Interval does not change Teams, enable its banner or end meetings. Its timer is personal; other participants do not see it.

For a Teams event in Apple Calendar, Interval shows time to the start and the scheduled finish at your Mac's screen edge. It joins supported Teams links from those events, keeps manual notes alongside the timer and warns visibly about overlapping meetings. Fold the panel into its compact view when you need space for the discussion.

If everyone agrees to continue, +5 min adds five minutes to your personal timer only. It leaves the invitation unchanged. Agree the new finish separately, especially if your next meeting is close. Our guide to keeping meetings on time explains how to leave room for decisions and next steps.

Interval reads selected Apple Calendar events on your Mac and never edits them. Google and Outlook calendars must appear in Apple Calendar first; there is no direct Google or Outlook sign-in. It works on-device without an Interval account. Supported meeting links are Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and FaceTime. It does not create, schedule or reschedule meetings, track working hours, provide a shared team or room timer, or run on Windows.

For setup, see joining Teams and other calls from Apple Calendar, making Google or Outlook calendars available on Mac and seeing time left during a meeting.

FAQ

Can I make the Teams end-of-meeting warning appear earlier?

The Microsoft Q&A answer linked above says its timing cannot be customised. It is a dated support answer, so check current Teams help for your version.

Why don't I see the “meeting ends in 5 minutes” banner?

Microsoft’s notification settings guide, checked 17 October 2026, documents Show notifications during calls and meetings. That is a general notification control; the documentation does not establish it as a fix for the five-minute end banner on Mac. Follow the current help and macOS notification-permission steps for the installed version.

Does the Teams Timer show to everyone?

Microsoft describes a timer visible to participants, with presenter capabilities. Follow the linked Teams personal instructions for the supported meeting context.

Can Interval join Teams meetings?

Yes, from supported Microsoft Teams links in Apple Calendar events. The personal countdown remains separate from Teams and does not change its warning or end the call.
