INTERVAL / PRACTICAL GUIDES
How to see how much time is left in your meeting on a Mac
Short answer
On a Mac, Zoom can show a Time Remaining timer for scheduled meetings (Settings > Meetings & webinars > Show meeting timer). Teams shows a short banner five minutes before the scheduled end. For one countdown across calls, Interval reads Apple Calendar and shows time left at the screen edge.
Start with the controls in the calling app you already use. If you mainly attend scheduled Zoom calls, its personal timer may be enough. If your day crosses several call services, a separate calendar countdown can keep the finish time visible in the same place. These are different ways to see time, rather than ways to make the meeting end.
Zoom on Mac
Zoom has a built-in Time Remaining display based on the meeting’s scheduled duration. It is visible only to you. According to Zoom’s meeting timer instructions, checked 17 October 2026:
- Open Zoom’s Settings.
- Go to Meetings & webinars and enable Show meeting timer.
- In the timer display, switch to Time remaining.
The time-left display depends on a scheduled duration. It does not work for recurring meetings with no fixed time, the Personal Meeting Room or instant meetings. If the option is missing, check the kind of meeting before assuming the setting failed.
A Zoom-only workflow may need nothing more. The built-in timer gives you a personal view without buying another utility. It is useful to distinguish the remaining scheduled time from time already spent: a meeting can continue after its planned finish, and showing a countdown does not enforce that finish for participants.
Microsoft Teams on Mac
Teams has a scheduled-end reminder rather than a continuously visible countdown in this example. A banner appears five minutes before the planned finish and lasts about ten seconds. A Microsoft Q&A answer about customising the notification, checked 17 October 2026, says customisation is not currently supported.
That banner can be enough if a brief prompt is all you need. It may be less useful if you want to glance at the remaining time several times during a discussion. This is a difference in presentation: the banner draws attention at one point, while a personal countdown is available whenever you look at it.
Microsoft also documents a Timer app for Teams Personal meetings. Its countdown is visible to participants with presenter capabilities. That is a presenter-led meeting tool, so check that it fits the kind of Teams session you are running. It is a different job from quietly keeping your own scheduled end time visible.
For the banner’s specific limits, read Teams’ “meeting ends in 5 minutes” warning on Mac.
Google Meet
For a Meet call on your calendar, the calendar event gives you a planned finish to work towards. If you use Interval, its personal countdown follows that Apple Calendar event’s end time. It is independent of which call window is open and does not report or control the meeting’s actual duration for other participants.
Google Meet also has a shared meeting timer, checked 17 October 2026. On the web, open Meeting tools → Timer, choose minutes and seconds, then start it. Everyone can see it. Hosts and co-hosts manage it when host controls are enabled; otherwise any participant can manage it. This is a chosen duration for the group, while Interval follows your calendar event’s scheduled finish.
One countdown for your calendar calls
Interval reads your selected Apple Calendar events and keeps upcoming meetings, start countdowns and time remaining at the screen edge. It opens supported Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and FaceTime links from events. For the account setup, see using a meeting countdown alongside Apple Calendar.
- Check the calendar event. Confirm the planned start and finish in Apple Calendar. The timer uses that end time.
- Select the calendars you need. Give Interval calendar access and choose the calendars that contain your meetings.
- Keep the countdown beside your work. Read the remaining time from the screen-edge panel during the call, or fold it into its compact timer when you need space.

If the group agrees to continue, +5 min adds five minutes to your personal timer. It leaves the invitation unchanged. At the end, the wrap-up prompt offers to add notes, give yourself five more minutes or mark the meeting done. It does not close the call window or tell other participants that their time is up.
Interval also displays an orange “Overlaps with…” warning when selected events clash, with manual notes alongside the timer. Those are personal aids: there is no shared team or room countdown. The app is read-only for calendar events, runs on-device and does not require an Interval account.
Interval website lifetime access costs £15.99 / US$19.99 / €19.99 / A$29.99 once for two Macs running macOS 26 or later. Pay before download. No website trial. It does not schedule or reschedule meetings, track time or run on Windows. Google and Outlook calendars must be available through Apple Calendar; there is no direct sign-in.
Make the end time stick
A visible timer helps you notice the boundary; the group still needs to decide what to do with it. Agree the finish at the start, leave a few minutes for the decision and name the next action before everyone leaves. Keep a useful tangent for a separate discussion if it would consume the remaining time.
The guide to keeping meetings on time covers agendas and wrap-up habits in more detail. For this page, the practical first step is simply to make the planned end visible where you can read it while listening.
Frequently asked questions
Can Zoom show how much time is left in a meeting?
Yes. Enable Show meeting timer in Settings > Meetings & webinars, then choose Time remaining. It is a personal display based on the scheduled duration.
Why doesn’t Zoom’s Time Remaining timer appear?
Check the meeting type. Zoom excludes recurring meetings with no fixed time, the Personal Meeting Room and instant meetings from this time-left display.
Can I change Teams’ “meeting ends in 5 minutes” warning?
The cited Microsoft Q&A answer, checked 17 October 2026, says customisation is not currently supported. A personal countdown can serve a separate need for an ongoing view.
Does Google Meet show time remaining?
Yes. Google documents a shared timer under Meeting tools → Timer. Set its duration for the group; a separate personal countdown can instead follow the scheduled end of your Apple Calendar event.
Can I see time left without opening the call window?
Interval puts your personal calendar countdown at the screen edge. It does not need to display its timer inside the call window and other participants do not see that countdown. See the supported call-link workflow.
